BALLAST! BALLAST! BALLAST!

Try to keep overall van and tow vehicle weight to a minimum. Excess weight increases stress on tyres, transmissions, motor and just about everything else. For safe motoring the overall weight of the van should not exceed the overall weight of the tow vehicle with the ball weight around 10 percent of the ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass).

In considering your payload, favor aluminium, plastics and feathers over steel, glass, porcelain and wool. If your van is equiped for 12 volts and you intend going off 240 volt power occasionally, don't carry a lot of 240v appliances which are unusable when off mains power. Look for alternatives.
